How to explain a Pharmacist to your child

A pharmacist is the person who makes sure you get exactly the right medicine when you're sick. They work behind a tall counter in a pharmacy, reading prescriptions (special notes from the doctor), counting pills into little orange bottles, and typing labels on a computer. They double-check every medicine to make sure it won't mix badly with other medicines someone is taking. For example, if your doctor says you need an antibiotic for an ear infection, the pharmacist makes sure the dose is just right for your size and age.

Pharmacists also answer lots of questions from people who feel worried or confused about their medicine. They might explain when to take a pill, whether to take it with food, or what to do if you forget a dose. They help people feel better faster by making sure the medicine works the way it should, and they catch mistakes before they can hurt anyone. Every person who picks up medicine gets to talk to someone who really knows how to keep them safe.
