How to explain a Family Doctor to your child

A family doctor works in a clinic or office where people come when they feel sick or need a checkup. They use a stethoscope to listen to your heart and lungs, a thermometer to check if you have a fever, and a little light to look in your ears and throat. They talk to parents, kids, grandparents—all kinds of people—and ask questions about what hurts or what feels different. For example, if someone has a sore throat and a cough, the doctor figures out if it's just a cold or something that needs medicine.

Family doctors help people feel better so they can go back to school, play with friends, or go to work.
