How to explain a Demand Planner to your child

A demand planner is someone who figures out how much of something a company needs to make or buy so stores have just the right amount on the shelves. They look at numbers on their computer—like how many toys sold last month or how many boxes of cereal people bought last winter—and use special spreadsheets and charts to predict what will happen next. They talk to the people who make things in factories, the teams who drive trucks to stores, and the people who buy supplies, all to make sure everyone is ready. For example, if they notice that more families buy ice cream when it gets hot outside, they help the company order more before summer starts.

This work matters because it helps make sure that when you go to the store with your grown-up, the things you need are actually there to buy. If a demand planner does their job well, the store won't run out of your favorite snacks, and it also won't have so much extra food that it goes bad and has to be thrown away. They help companies save money and reduce waste, which means the things we buy can cost a little less and we're not wasting food or toys that nobody needs.
